Running Pieces

FLAT MOULDS

vaseline

3 layers of airbrush cap plastic

again used IPA cap plastic (1:3 this time)

I used silicone pigments and created a light grey tone and black flocking to give the pieces more texture and make it more realistic

then I ran the piece

then 3 more layers of airbrush cap plastic

then used talc to remove the piece

there was a little rip in this so I ran the piece again and this one came out perfect

only ran 2 of these because I didnt have much time and wanted to get my squash moulds ran

both of these flat moulds came out well so didn't feel the need use more time running more pieces

SQUASH MOULDS

Made sure to weigh the clay and the plasticine from each one separately as this is an indicator of How much silicone will be needed.

A spray release agent/vaseline was applied and then I could go ahead with cap plastic.

I used an air brush and IPA based cap plastic (1:7) as I was using a glatzan bald cap which gets blended away with acetone so I didn’t want to use acetone based cap plastic incase it blended and made holes in the bald cap.

For the first run, I did 4 airbrush cap plastic layers. this run was the run that went wrong because someone mixed up the deadeners, the nose piece Didn’t work but the horn worked, the forehead piece worked because I mixed up the deadeners, but it worked because someone had mixed them up.

I cleaned my moulds up and re ran the pieces, again 4 layers of airbrush cap plastic.

I used silicone pigments and created a light grey tone and I created an off yellow colour for the horns

I used black flocking to give the pieces more texture and make it more realistic

These pieces came out okay but the cap plastic was far too thin and looked like spider web.

the forehead piece did not get a good squash so could not use this.

the nose piece ripped as I tried to take it out the mould so couldn’t use this.

I then altered this and changed it to 6 layers of airbrush cap plastic, the next pieces came out well both got a good squash and both had nice cap plastic edges which I could use to blend.

I had my pieces ready for the final assessment.
